About Us

The Water Lodge is a small and humble private wooden lodge (kelong) resort, perched on stilts over lapping waves. Located in the Riau Archipelago, between Pulau Batam and Pulau Bintan, The Water Lodge is situated in a sheltered bay off a small sleepy island, Pulau Tunjuk and we entertain guests 9 months a year from March to November.

Just about 2.5 hours away from Singapore, you can find an entirely different lifestyle here. The locals generally fish for a living and still practice some barter trading. There are no cars, no shopping malls and definitely no Internet connection. It is one of the last places on earth where electric lights and hot showers are a luxury.

Guests will get to enjoy the solitude, the lack of communication access, the separation from the modern world and the only sounds are that of the gentle wind blowing, the lapping of the waves and the flapping of the canvases that are tied to the wooden stilts.

In the little villages, you will experience Indonesia's ethnic and indigenous cultures and meet the kampung people who have never used a computer or know what a web page is, and may never will...Life is that simple.

The Water Lodge can only be rented out as a whole and will be exclusively yours and your group for the entire trip with min 5 pax to go. We rent the place out privately, hence you will not have to share accommodation, food, bathrooms and amenities with any other people except your own.

Being a family friendly place, we welcome all families to join us for a memorable vacation. We are also well suited for corporate, religious group retreats and team building trips where you can plan your own itinerary and we will do our very best to put it together for you.

Taking time to relax isn't just about fun - It's essential.

"People are so used to measuring themselves by their accomplishments that they often overdo it and burn out. If you really want to achieve more, you have to allow yourself to rest." says Ray Bennett, author of The Underachiever's Manifesto (Chronicle Books, 2006)
